Course Inventory

One
A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :
In order to document the UT Dallas Course Inventory of Academic Year (AY) 2019, the Office of Sustainability requested a full list of AY 2019 courses through the Provost's Office. The UT Dallas course catalog website, (undergraduate courses: https://catalog.utdallas.edu/2018/undergraduate/courses and graduate courses: https://catalog.utdallas.edu/2018/graduate/courses), was utilized to document course descriptions for all AY2019 courses. In order to filter for sustainability courses and courses that include sustainability, certain key words were used relating to the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG(s)) [document attached in additional documentation to support the submission].
In order to protect against false positives that occurred from utilizing key word searches, ALL sustainability courses (focused and related) that were identified using the key word search were then audited by the Sustainability Director to ensure that each course was correctly identified as focused or related to sustainability.
How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Course catalog from Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 was used for the audit and courses were audited during summer 2019.
Please note that the number of departments differs from IC3 because IC3 includes departments that are research only. The attached course inventory included only 22 possible departments through which classes could be listed. The spreadsheet is filtered to only show sustainability courses and filters can be removed to see all available departments.
