6,000

A brief description of the methodology used to track and calculate the number of recordable incidents of work-related injury or ill health :

The university does not calculate the full-time equivalent for affiliated non-employee types, e.g. contractors, visiting scholars, volunteers, etc. We do track the total number and type of affiliated non-employees on campus.

As a Texas state agency, the University is not subject to OSHA log recordkeeping requirements nor does Texas have a state-level OSHA. However, the University values employee safety and generates a Total Case Incidence Rate (TCIR) using workers' compensation claims data. Any case resulting in any medical expense is considered “reportable”. UT Austin uses the generally accepted OSHA calculation where Incidence Rate equals the number of cases multiplied by 200,000 divided by the total hours worked by all employees. The total hours of employees are calculated by using the number of full-time equivalent employees multiplied by 2,000.

Annual number of recordable incidents of work-related injury or ill health per 100 FTE employees:
0.84
