1st program

Name of the employee educators program (1st program):
Zero Waste Workplace Compost Champions

A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):

Staff and faculty sign a formal agreement, watch a training video, and attend a 30 minute virtual Q&A and quiz before receiving equipment to compost in their breakroom. As the Compost Champion of their office, they are responsible for educating their coworkers to participate properly in the breakroom composting program to ensure contaminants are removed.

A brief description of the employee educators program’s target audience (1st program):

Compost Champions targets main campus UT staff, faculty, or sometimes graduate students. The audience for their peer education and program involvement include any staff or students who utilize the breakroom or kitchen space. Only staff and faculty were counted for these numbers.

The number of employees served is based on non-auxiliary staff that work on-campus as well as all faculty except those in the Dell Medical School. Off-campus locations such as the J.J. Pickle Research Campus, the Marine Science Institute, and the McDonald Observatory were not included. Auxiliary units were also not included, including athletics, the Blanton Museum of Art, and Document Solutions. Staff within Dell Medical School’s Health Discovery Building were included, as composting does happen there. Total staff from this calculation (for FY 22-23) is 7397, and total faculty is 3934.

Numbers for the above calculations were pulled from these two datasets:
