The Program accepts students from across the country and teachers from the Austin area and is funded by a National Science Foundation grant. Students will participate in a weekly research seminar series, portfolio creation, and professional development activities. Students will also participate in field excursions related to their research. The summer program will conclude with a research poster session and open house. SEED is more than just a competition. Unlike other challenges that occur over a shorter period, we provide mentorship, curriculum, and networking opportunities for students to use at their desired pace. Our goal is to train future problem solvers to address root problems through a sustainability lens – not just to give a great pitch. SEED’s long-term mission is to create a collaborative network of educational institutions, impact businesses, and community programs to train youth to become sustainability innovation leaders in any career through education and experiential learning. Teams receive mentorship, curriculum, and networking over 4-6 weeks as the pitch competition happens. Teams also work before and after the competition to launch their green ventures. Run through the McCombs School of Business Global Sustainability Leadership Institute.
