Has the institution engaged in a structured assessment process during the previous three years to improve diversity, equity and inclusion on campus?:
Yes
A brief description of the assessment process and the framework, scorecard(s) and/or tool(s) used:
Employees and students have been queried through the Employee Engagement Survey and the Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) for a number of items related to diversity, equity and inclusion. Two years ago the Institute for urban Research and Policy, part of the African and African Diaspora Studies Department conducted a study, The Campus Climate for University of Texas at Austin Faculty.
This survey queried faculty about campus climate, inclusion and equity as well as experience as a faculty member along other dimensions. During the most recent Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSOC) accreditation process, it was noted that the university was in full compliance with regard to assessment, with several sub-units of the DDCE that work to increase and support diverse student populations were lauded for “thorough and candid presentation of outcomes, metrics, findings, and action plans.” Through the relatively new University Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, there is a goal to conduct a comprehensive diversity survey. Currently different options for the comprehensive survey are being considered. The Provost Office conducts the COACHE (Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education) job satisfaction survey on a regular basis. The next survey will be Feb. 2020. https://reports.utexas.edu/coache

A brief description of the most recent assessment findings and how the results are used in shaping policy, programs, and initiatives:
This will be part of the comprehensive assessment to be undertaken according to the University Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (UDIAP). Two years ago there was a study titled, The Campus Climate for University of Texas at Austin Faculty, which indicated a need for mentoring diverse faculty members as they establish their careers, something which has been accounted for in the UDIAP. Other recommendations from the report which were taken into account when the UDIAP was drafted included: interviewing at least one minority candidate for each position and providing more targeted support for faculty of color and for women in tenure-track positions.
Student outcomes related to diversity, equity and success have been gathered through the university's Student Success Initiatives; Recent reports show that the four-year graduation rate for first-generation college students has increased from 40.9% in 2012 to 58.7% in 2017.
A number of assessment findings were used in development of the University Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan including data from SERU, the Employee Engagement Survey, the faculty report produced by IUPRA, and data gathered by the Campus Climate Response Team. Additionally, input was gathered from across campus to ensure CSUs, the Faculty and Staff Councils and Student Government had input into creation of the plan.
