A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:

All non-teaching staff were provided an opportunity to respond to a professionally developed, long standing employee engagement survey administered by a third party. This was the third administration of this survey in the last five years. Most employees received an invitation via email to respond online. Employees who do not have access to computers as part of their work were invited to sessions where they could complete paper versions of the survey. The Survey assesses essential and fundamental aspects of how the organization functions, the climate, potential barriers to improvement, and internal organizational strengths. Survey results are delivered on a scale of 0 to 500. Average scores for the Survey typically fall between 325 and 375. The university score was 379. The Survey measures 14 areas that drive organizational performance and engagement. These areas include: Supervision, Team, Quality, Pay, Benefits, Physical Environment, Strategic, Diversity, Information Systems, Internal Communication, External Communication, Employee Engagement, Employee Development, and Job Satisfaction.

A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation (including examples from the previous three years):

An Employee Engagement Survey Steering Committee was formed with representatives nominated from each College, School, and Administrative Unit (CSU) by their Dean or Vice President. Steering Committee representatives received the survey data related to their CSU for dissemination. Members of Human Resources and the Institute for Organizational Effectiveness assist representatives with interpreting and leveraging data in their units.
