In spring of 2003, President Powers formed a Taskforce for Racial Respect and Fairness in response to a series of racially-charged incidents on campus. In 2005, this Taskforce’s work resulted in the creation of the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, and the Taskforce itself was disbanded. The only committees working now are internal to the DDCE and do not have broad campus representation; stakeholders are now engaged through the extensive programming offered by the DDCE.
