A brief description of the program:

The Guide School (offered in Spring) is designed for individuals interested in acquiring backcountry guiding skills and outdoor leadership experience. Our emphasis is on backcountry safety, navigation, trip planning and preparation, leadership skills, camp cooking, providing excellent customer service, and team building. Participants who successfully complete the Guide School curriculum will be eligible to apply for employment with the UT RecSports Outdoor Recreation Program. A Leave No Trace trainer certification is included in the fees.

UT Austin also offers several other outdoor recreation programs, led by trainers who have gone through the UT Guide School or equivalent.
