A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
Welcoming DiVerSity Faculty & Staff Workshop and Lunch : Hosted by UT Arlington’s Office of Human Resources Management and Development, this workshop is an experiential, interactive program designed to promote awareness and increased sensitivity to the many similarities and differences among individuals and groups in our society. Done in an upbeat, hopeful tone, the program focuses on developing self-pride, examining stereotypes, and learning skills in responding to prejudicial jokes, remarks, and slurs. Participants will also discover how to be more attentive to diversity and racism in the workplace and community.
Diversity Training Institute ( DTI ) is a three-day summer institute geared toward training university staff members on the development of diversity education programs at their respective campuses. Participants learn to design their own programs promoting awareness of social justice issues. Participants also will have the opportunity to share their own experiences, attend workshops on facilitating group discussions, working with administrators to gain support of diversity education and finding the best resources.
