A brief description of the institution's water recovery and reuse initiatives:
Numerous buildings on campus have storm water cisterns that allow rain water to be treated and used for laundry, flushing toilets, and irrigation.
A brief description of the institution's initiatives to replace plumbing fixtures, fittings, appliances, equipment, and systems with water-efficient alternatives (e.g. building retrofits):
$100,000 was allocated from the Student Green Fee in December 2019 to invest in more water-efficient fixtures in high traffic buildings. Old toilets can use 5 gallons or more per flush, newer ones use 1.6 gallons per flush. Older urinals use 3 or more gallons per flush, and newer ones use 0.8 gallons per flush. The University is also experimenting with water-less urinals which need no water. Lavatory faucets use in excess of 1 gallon per minute, newer ones will use 0.5 gallons per minute, and be automatically controlled to lessen the likelihood of faucets being left open. Motion sensors for the water faucets in bathroom sinks assist in eliminating excess water-use.
