A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory (including the types of faculty and staff included as researchers):
First, the Institute for a Secure and Sustainable Environment and the Howard H. Baker Jr Center for Public Policy provided a list of researchers engaged in sustainability research. Then, the Office of Sustainability obtained a report from the Office of Research and Engagement which listed research projects active between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017. This list included investigator names, department affiliations, project titles, and project abstracts. The Office of Sustainability also acquired a similar report of UT Institute of Agriculture research projects for FY 2016. An Office of Sustainability staff member used keyword searches to find the majority of sustainability-related projects. Then, the remaining abstracts were read individually to determine if the research contributes toward realizing one or more of the principles outlined in the Earth Charter or one or more of the targets embedded in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
