A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :
Friends of Switchie (FOS) was launched in 2009 by the Office of Sustainability and the Committee on the Campus Environment. The goal of the program is to engage UT Knoxville offices and departments with campus energy conservation efforts. To date, over 30 employees have signed up to participate with the program.
Participating faculty and staff ("Friends of Switchie") support the Switch Your Thinking energy conservation campaign by pledging to turn off lights, copy machines, window air conditioning units, and other electronic equipment in the common areas of their office at the end of each day.
FOS participants receive a decal to place with pride on the window of their front office. In addition, participants receive the FOS 'Tip of the Month' - a monthly publication that provides additional information and resources about campus sustainability efforts.
