Environmental Studies Interdisciplinary Program:
This program is designed to provide a sound scientific, socio-economic, and philosophical background for understanding the earth's environment. The program requires a sound base in both biological and physical sciences to provide an understanding of how the world works and courses in agriculture, sociology, philosophy, and economics to provide an understanding of the importance of human and economic values in making environmental decisions. Thus, a goal of the program is to offer a curriculum that emphasizes the relevance of human and economic values and science in making prudent environmental decisions.
Sociology Major:
Sociology's concentration in Environmental Issues and Globalization aim to provide a deeper understanding of the inherent relationship between humans and the environment. Courses lay a basic foundation of sociological knowledge in the area of environmental issues and globalization. Students grapple with some fundamental sociological issues, such as inequalities, social conflict, cultural values, economic processes, and transnationalism, through the medium of environmental issues. Students will be able to apply basic skills in sociological theory and research to the field of environmental sociology and theories and concepts from environmental sociology to everyday life.
