A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:
The University is required by various Acts and Policies to demonstrate that it has made every reasonable effort to ensure that staff members fully understand their rights and obligations under the law and University Policies.
An Induction Checklist is provided to all new employees. The tasks and activities in this Induction Checklist should be completed within the probation period or within the first six months of employment if the probation period exceeds six months. The checklist is to be completed and placed on the staff member’s file.
The University of Tasmania Induction Checklist includes a section on Environmental Sustainability. All new employees are informed that sustainable practices are embedded within the University of Tasmania's operations and through the University's commitment to reduce environmental impacts, achieve economic efficiency, demonstrate social responsibility and enhance student experience. They are also provided with a link to the Sustainability Portal to explore sustainability at the university further.
Additionally, to raise the awareness of staff about harassment and discrimination issues, and to be clear about expected standards of behaviour we require all newly appointed staff to complete the online equal opportunity training program, EO Online 'Fair Play on Campus'.
