Adjusted net GHG emissions

Adjusted net Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions:
Performance year Baseline year
Adjusted net GHG emissions 18,637.83 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 42,725 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Performance and baseline periods

Start and end dates of the performance year and baseline year (or three-year periods):
Performance year Baseline year
Start date July 1, 2021 July 1, 2006
End date June 30, 2022 June 30, 2007

A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:
2007 was chosen as baseline for the university's original climate action plan. This was the first year the university performed a greenhouse gas emissions inventory The university's president signed the Climate Leadership Carbon Commitment in 2008.

Part 1. Reduction in GHG emissions per person

Weighted campus users

Figures needed to determine “Weighted Campus Users”:
Performance year Baseline year
Number of students resident on-site 2,277 2,566
Number of employees resident on-site 11 40
Number of other individuals resident on-site 0 0
Total full-time equivalent student enrollment 8,176 8,514
Full-time equivalent of employees 1,495 1,531
Full-time equivalent of students enrolled exclusively in distance education 593.40 0
Weighted Campus Users 7,380.20 8,185.25

Metrics used in scoring for Part 1

Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user:
Performance year Baseline year
Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user 2.53 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 5.22 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Percentage reduction in adjusted net Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user from baseline:

Floor area of energy intensive building space, performance year:
Floor area
Laboratory space 17,601 Square feet
Healthcare space 17,265 Square feet
Other energy intensive space 128,303 Square feet

EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
3,866,687 Gross square feet

Metric used in scoring for Part 2

Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per unit of EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
0.00 MtCO2e per square foot

A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives:
The university continues to make improvements to heating distribution and control systems, air handling systems, lighting systems and energy management controls. We continue to improve out waste recycling program and our planning a food waste composting program. We are building a new Science and Arts building that is tracking to be LEED Gold certified.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
The latest year for which the University's greenhouse gas data are available is fiscal year 2022 (July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2022). The weighted campus users reported in this credit are therefore based on fiscal year 2022 data. As a result, the figures in this credit vary slightly from those reported in PRE-5, which are based on fiscal year 2023.

The figures for the number of employees resident on-site and number of other individuals are representative of employees living in residence hall buildings as the GHG emissions inventory includes residence hall buildings but does not include all buildings with residents in these categories.
