Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Fowler Global Social Innovation Challenge
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
The Fowler Global Social Innovation Challenge inspires student social entrepreneurs around the world to connect and create business solutions that address social and environmental challenges. Since 2011, we've connected more than 3,000 students from more than 25 countries around the world - including Australia, South Korea, Rwanda, The Philippines, Ghana, Mexico, and Peru - recognizing their outstanding social ventures based on positive impact and financial sustainability. To date, we've distributed more than $700,000 in funding and in kind-services, to seed the most innovative and promising global ventures.
St. Thomas' involvement began in 2019 as we joined the University of San Diego in co-hosting the challenge in alternating years.
We are submitting an exemplary practice credit for IN-25, Network for Student Social Innovation, which “recognizes institutions that are participating in external networks for institutions that support student social innovation.” Ashoka Changemaker U designation qualifies for the exemplary practice. Being one of two partners on the Fowler GSIC, St. Thomas goes above and beyond mere “participation” in an external network.
