A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):

The Environment and Safety Committee is an appointed committee by the President of the Staff Assembly. The committee is responsible for monitoring the safety and security of the university working environments at the Health Sciences Campus, University Park Campus, and auxiliary campuses. The committee reviews and reports on sustainability programs, investigates disaster preparedness on all campus locations and works closely with the Office of Sustainability and Department of Public Safety.

Members of the Environment and Safety Committee become catalysts for various environmental- and sustainability-related topics at USC and beyond. Members receive information and training on the university's sustainability goals, initiatives and challenges, and they are provided exposure to campus sustainability experts, allowing the members to become sustainability experts as well.

They then engage with fellow USC employees by sharing information on how they can live more sustainably and can use their power to help USC and the broader community become more sustainable. To do so, the committee shares information about campus events and workshops, and hosts tabling opportunities. For example, the committee has held campaigns related to "Green Meetings" in order to educate fellow USC employees on how to reduce the environmental impact of meetings by promoting sustainable transportation, going paperless, utilizing sustainable caterers, and enabling proper waste diversion.
