In 2010, Florida Statute § 255.2575 declared that all county, municipal, school district, water management district, state university, community college, and Florida state court buildings shall be constructed to comply with a sustainable building rating system or a national model green building code. This statute is applicable to all architectural plans which are commenced after July 1, 2008.

All vehicles purchased (with the exception of police vehicles or vehicles that run on diesel fuel) must be flex fuel compliant. This means the vehicles can run on ethanol (E85). Hybrid and electric vehicles are allowable alternatives to flex fuel compliance. http://www1.eere.energy.gov/vehiclesandfuels/epact/index.html 2015 – 2025 CAMPUS MASTER PLAN UPDATE Policy 5.1.3.5: Following the Bull Runner system’s use of biofuels as an example, the University shall consider providing additional alternative fuel vehicles for its campus fleet with biofuels and electric vehicles as potential options to reduce the University’s carbon footprint and reduce reliance on non-renewable energy including fossil fuels.

2015 – 2025 CAMPUS MASTER PLAN UPDATE Policy 7.5.3.12: The University shall develop a plan to implement LEED based projects to promote less energy use and thereby reduce the electric and fossil fuel demand. Policy 7.7.2.4: The electrical design of all future building construction shall be designed to achieve at minimum a Silver LEED rating. Policy 8.5.9: The University shall endeavor to reduce and prevent “light pollution” and its impact on nocturnal environment by meeting relevant LEED credit guidelines in new development and through phased replacement of non-compliant lighting campus wide.
