USF Green Living Learning Community 2012-13 is a community comprised of up to 24 residents with one resident assistant, an Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) and two advisers focused on providing students with the opportunity to work with each other, faculty, and administrators on a variety of campus green projects. In addition, students have special programming focused on developing their interests in sustainability and green living. University of South Florida’s Housing & Residential Education department will launch two new living learning communities (LLCs) in the fall of 2013: the Global Citizenship LLC and the Education LLC. Living Learning Communities, known as LLCs, are residential communities with a special emphasis on an academic major or an area of interest where students reside and collaborate with other students with similar majors and interests, connect with faculty and staff right in the residence hall, and enjoy experiential learning opportunities designed especially for them.
The new GC LLC will offer a unique living experience in Holly Apartments for first and second year students from select colleges who are participating in the university’s Global Citizenship General Education Program, an innovative version of USF's Foundations of Knowledge and Learning Core Curriculum. The program includes coursework and co-curricular activities that are designed to enhance students’ global thinking. By offering an LLC to partner with this program, students will have the opportunity to integrate and apply classroom knowledge in their living environment and practice skills necessary to study abroad. The GC LLC will be of particular interest to students pursuing degrees and careers related to global issues, including environmental and cultural sustainability, public and community health, economic development and sustainable enterprise, human rights and social justice, global education, and the arts.
