Reporting to the President of the University of South Carolina, the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (VP for DE&I) leads and oversees a comprehensive plan to enhance and build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community for students, faculty, staff and visitors on the Columbia campus. A brief description of the institution’s cultural competence trainings and activities for each of the groups identified above:

CTE, in collaboration with the ODI, offers a Teaching Towards Inclusive Excellence certificate program designed to increase awareness of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom. The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) offers a wide variety of programs and activities focused on diversity awareness, cultural competence, mentoring, and support These and other professional development workshops are offered for faculty and staff through HR, which also offers a GreenZone Ally training workshop focused on military culture and veteran student needs. The Intercultural Student Services Office offers a Carolina Intercultural Training workshop that provides effective tools for communicating across cultures. And the EOP Office offers a variety of training programs focused on recognizing and dealing with various forms of discrimination and harassment. Since 2018, the ODI has also partnered with EOP, the Talent Acquisition division of Human Resources, Legal Services, and the Office for International Scholars to offer campus-wide training for search committees on best-practices in recruiting and hiring underrepresented faculty.
