Recyclemania
A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:
Use the framework of the national RecycleMania competition to do a recycling education and outreach campaign on the campus. Events are planned for throughout the 8 week competition both in the residence halls and at the student union. Events in 2019 included: RecycleOlympics in which students competed at recycling events like the wrapping paper tube javelin, bottle toss, timed waste sort and a recycling bin obstacle course, and a recycling competition between different floors of a residence hall. There were also outreach tables at the student union to educate students about recycling on campus.

Increase in campus recycling rate from previous year.

Green Event Certification
A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged (2nd campaign):
Sustainable Carolina's Green Event certification is a program run by student interns that work with various student organization and offices on campus to host more sustainable events. The certification process encompasses sustainability in every aspect of event planning, including Marketing and Communications, transportation, energy usage, food and drink, decoration and waste management, and education. Two of the most successful events certified in the past school year were Dance Marathon Main Event, an all day fundraising event benefiting Childrens Miracle Network Hospital that was participated in by over 2,000 students, and the Career Fairs, a 2 day event hosted by the Career center that was attended by over 3,000 students and over 100 outside employers.
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Through this program, over 5,000 students and staff were attendees of Green events in the first year alone. The Green Certification team is in attendance at all Events and provides an education element that varies depending on the type of event that is being hosted. Typically we have a table with more information on Green events, and we also will make announcements to the crowd about the certification process and our presence at the event. We are looking forward to continuing to expand this program on campus.

Optional Fields
Tailgate Recycling- Before home football games, student volunteers spend a few hours handing out bags for tailgaters to place their recyclables in. During the game, members of the recycling staff at USC pick up bags, and following the game students and staff help with cleaning up the leftover materials
