A brief description of the diversity and equity committee, office and/or officer, including purview and activities:
The University of South Carolina Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee (DIAC) is a broadly representative and deliberative group concerned with the representational and equity aspects of diversity and the development/sustaining of working, living and learning conditions that support the work and development of ALL students, faculty, and staff. DIAC serves as the coordinating committee for all other diversity-related committees on the USC Columbia campus. The goals of the committee shall include, but not be limited to the following:
- Work with and advise the Chief Diversity Officer and other senior officers as appropriate concerning the promotion of diversity and inclusion as strategic imperatives and the development of an inclusive campus climate.
- Advise on the formulation, review, and application of policies and guidelines that promote the full contribution, personal, academic, and career success of all students, faculty and staff.
- Provide a forum to which faculty, staff and students may refer questions and recommendations concerning university diversity and inclusion-related policies and procedures.

A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
The Office of Equal Opportunity Programs conducts EEO/Affirmative Action and diversity
training on these relevant issues to educate USC’s faculty, staff, and students. By providing ongoing
personal and professional development training opportunities, our overall goal is to help increase the
University’s faculty, staff, and student awareness and effectiveness—and their ability to contribute to the
success of the University.
