A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive experience(s) offered by the institution:
The GLC is a group of 30 underclassmen students who live together on a shared floor of the Green Quad. These students experiment with the foundations for a 'greener' society, and take a mandatory class on issues in regards to the environment (food, water, energy, animals) and social justice issues (politics, food deserts, globalization, etc). GLC students work together on campus projects and learn about the campus garden, recycling initiatives, and waste audits. Together, they form one of the strongest learning communities on campus.
While these students are an important volunteer pool for Sustainable Carolina, and serve as our campus leaders, they benefit greatly from the sense of community that is formed as well as from the respectful and explorative environment of the floor. The group has grown each consecutive year.
