Part 2. Sustainability-focused certificate program

A brief description of the certificate program(s):
The Prairie Horticulture Certificate (PHC) supports and facilitates local food production and business associated with local food production. PHC is a part-time program that offers a flexible schedule to accommodate work-life balance and is offered over three terms per year. There are three streams of study:
• Fruit and Vegetable Production
• Greenhouse Crop Production
• Landscaping and Arboriculture
• Nursery Crop Production

The Master Gardener Certificate Program supports and facilitates local horticulture, development of green spaces and food production. It offers a wide variety of gardening and horticultural courses for all levels of ability and knowledge. The program is open to everyone age 16 or over. Anyone can take any of the classes at any time, either for personal interest or for certification, which involves certification examinations.
Master Gardener core courses include:
• Garden Fundamentals (workshop or distance format).
• Botanical Latin (workshop or distance format).
• Identifying Insects in Your Yard & Garden (workshop)
• Safe Use of Pesticides and Alternatives (workshop)
• Common Plant Diseases (workshop)
• Tree & Shrub I.D. (workshop)
In addition, over 30 special interest courses, tours or events are regularly offered..
