A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory (including the types of faculty and staff included as researchers):
In collaboration with research facilitators, research databases throughout the university were searched based on list of key terms. All researchers identified during that broad search were contacted and informed of the parameters and intent of the research inventory and given the opportunity to opt out if they did not wish to be included.
The University of Saskatchewan has implemented UnivRS, an online suite of tools for faculty researchers and support staff to manage research documentation and funds. UnivRS includes a mandatory field in the project records entitled ‘Sustainability Project’ based on the U of S definition of sustainability research, as well as a searchable list of keywords. UnivRS enables the extraction of reports on a regular basis. This system will likely be replaced by Elsevier's SciVal very soon, allowing for better tracking of the institution's sustainability research.
