Environment and Society provides students with an interdisciplinary program that prepares them for employment or further study in a broad range of areas related to the Environment. Through exposure to science, social science, and humanities perspectives related to the environment students will develop an understanding of environmental science, resource management, environmental philosophy, policy, and environmental studies

This interdisciplinary program examines ecosystems with a focus on how living organisms interact with their environment. Students completing this program will have a comprehensive understanding of the basic science of environmental biology and ecological theory, an exposure to technical skills, and will be articulate and knowledgeable about the complex environmental issues facing our society. Areas of emphasis are biodiversity, conservation, ecological processes, environmental contamination, and other aspects of applied ecology. Opportunities are provided for students to pursue their own particular interests through senior electives. Courses from other disciplines are used to supplement those in Biology.

The Interdisciplinary Program in Environmental Earth Sciences is a joint program of the departments of Geography, Geological Sciences, and Soil Science. It explores the relationships, both modern and ancient, among the solid Earth, the atmosphere, the oceans, and the biosphere. The primary emphasis is on the physical sciences, rather than the biological sciences. An important part of the program is training in methods, including field methods, of investigating and interpreting near-surface environments, and the effects of human activities upon them. On completion of the program, students receive either the B.Sc. Four-year or the B.Sc. Honours. Environmental Earth Sciences curriculum will permit graduates of the program to meet the requirements for professional registration as environmental geoscientists-in-training in the Province of Saskatchewan (APEGS).

The School of Environment and Sustainability offers the Undergraduate Certificate of Proficiency in Sustainability - the first of its kind at a Canadian university. The certificate enriches a student's current degree program by providing significant exposure to sustainability-related concepts and practices. Students gain an understanding of how to integrate human-environmental systems within our current reality and how to critically evaluate sustainability efforts. Students focus their elective courses through two streams: Sustainability and Community or Sustainability and Natural Resources.

The Kanawayihetaytan Askiy, formerly the Indigenous Peoples Resource Management program, is a uniquely designed certificate program that is focused on providing a broad range of topic areas specific to the management of lands and resources on federal reserve lands. This program examines basic environmental, legal and economic aspects of land and resource management in Aboriginal communities. The program also provides students with the opportunity to increase skill levels in communications, computers, time management, leadership, research and project management.

The Minor in Critical Perspectives on Social Justice and the Common Good is an interdisciplinary course of study using the collected insights of various academic disciplines. It is designed to prepare students to be responsible critics of contemporary societies and effective agents for positive social transformation. Students reflect on the causes and structures of injustice and approaches to social change at interpersonal, communal, national and global levels. As part of their course of study, students critically examine historical and contemporary misappropriation and abuse of the constructs of social justice and common good. Through community service-learning this minor engages faculty, students, and community partners in local and international responses to inequality and marginalization.

The program provides students with a strong and structured physical understanding of hydrological processes that affect the quantity and movement of surface and near-surface waters and the impacts of human activities on water supply and characteristics.
