A brief description of when and why the workplace health and safety baseline was adopted:
Under provincial occupational health and safety regulations, and the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Act, workplace incidents must be tracked and reported. We have been tracking incidents for many years.
A brief description of the institution’s workplace health and safety initiatives:
The University of Saskatchewan has a dedicated team of occupational health and safety professionals that support the university community. Key initiatives that Safety Resources is currently involved in include:
• Advancement of a new client centred organizational structure and operating model within Safety Resources intended to advance campus engagement and support for best practices in health, safety and environmental protection.
• Implementation of safety management systems across the campus community in colleges and administrative units.
• Advancement of the university Biosafety Program in preparation for new regulations and licencing in 2015/2016.
• Review and update of all safety-related training provided by Safety Resources.
• Implementation of a new hearing conservation program.
• Development and implementation of institutional and local emergency response plans.
• Integration of data management systems that support health, safety and environment programs and services.
