RCE Conference of the Americas
In May 2008, the Saskatchewan Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (SK RCE on ESD) hosted the RCE Conference of the Americas. It was held at the University of Regina in Saskatchewan. The purpose of the conference was to strengthen the United Nations RCE on ESD Network (www.ias.unu.edu/efsd/rce) and to raise awareness of education for sustainable development. A number of University of Saskatchewan faculty and graduate students presented papers and participated in panels at this conference:

• Dr. Janet McVittie and Sharla Scyrup, “Supporting and Building Cultures for Sustainable Living and Community Living -- A Model for Youth Fora for Sustainability.”

The University of Saskatchewan is a partner in the Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (SK RCE on ESD). The SK RCE seeks to transform education for sustainability in our region. Education is broadly understood to include formal education (such as primary, secondary, and post-secondary education) as well as informal and non-formal education (such as the private media and public education by non-governmental organizations).
A brief summary of additional ways the institution collaborates with other campuses to advance sustainability :
"Spring into Action" Workshop: At the intersections of education, environment, and Aboriginal education.
This workshop was hosted by the Regional Centre for Expertise in Education for Sustainable Development (RCE) in Saskatchewan, and the University of Saskatchewan College of Education and School of Environment and Sustainability. The workshop brought together university faculty, environmental NGOs, First Nations and Métis educational organizations, school district representatives, and individuals from relevant Ministries (e.g. Education; Environment) to network and engage in consultation on the matter of education for sustainable development.
