A brief description of how multiple stakeholder groups were involved in developing the plan:

The Sustainability Commitment Working Group (SCWG) was formed in 2008 to respond to the inclusion of sustainability in the Second Integrated Plan. Throughout its term, the SCWG focused on its mission to engage the university and its extended community in all aspects of sustainability and collectively develop a plan for sustainability at the University of Saskatchewan.


A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :

In "Promise and Potential: The Third Integrated Plan" our university has comitted to a a Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) rating of silver by 2020.

This goal will provide the impetus to achieve the broad goals identified in each of the sub-plans (education, research, operations, governance and community engagement) of the Campus Sustainability Plan:

Students from across Canada and the world recognize the U of S for its innovative sustainability-related and sustainability-focused academic programs and services.

The University of Saskatchewan will be recognized across Canada for its outstanding sustainability-focused research, scholarly and artistic work across all disciplines.

Sustainability is a guiding principle in all operations at the University of Saskatchewan.

Sustainability is a core value that is embedded in everything that we do at the University of Saskatchewan.

All members of the campus community intentionally choose and initiate sustainable behaviour in all areas of campus life.


A brief description of how progress in meeting the plan’s goals is measured:

Our annually updated STARS rating will be be published in the University of Saskatchewan's Achievement Record (http://www.usask.ca/achievementrecord/) as a means to publically measure our progress against our stated goal of achieving a silver rating by 2020.
