A brief description of the program:
UCommute is a ridesharing and commuting data collection program powered by a third party website (RideShark). UCommute is a unique ridesharing program in that it is only accessible by the University community, as it is restricted to employees, students and faculty possessing NSIDs (University identification numbers). The program must be accessed through the PAWS portal, which is the University’s web service for employees, students and faculty, after which the user is routed to the UCommute website. Ride matching, the first function of the program, allows users to search for carpool matches, as well as transit, walking, and biking buddies. The second function of the program allows users to ‘log’ their commutes, and provides them with data on their individual commuting cost, distance traveled, greenhouse gas emissions produced, etc. From the administrative side of the program, the University is able to collect data on commuting patterns of users and the greenhouse gas emission cost associated with travel to campus.
