A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
Information on sustainability and our campus sustainability initiatives is included in:
- 11,000 Student Handbooks distributed during the first week of classes. Sustainable initiatives promoted include:
UPASS (Discounted Transit Pass); The School of Environment and Sustainability; contact information on how to go Green and who to call for recycling, disposal, leaks, feedback, etc.
- LIVE EXPO, an information fair for new students.
- Welcome Week. For instance, Welcome Week 2011 included a used bike sale and information, displays and services related to cycling. All events strive to optimize recycling and waste reduction.
- Sustainable merchandise is given out during Welcome Week. In 2009/2010 corn ware mugs were handed out. In 2010/2011 we had three grand prizes (IPads) rather than an assortment of giveaways.
