A brief description of the institution’s participation in an external network of anchor institutions:
USD's anchor partnerships extend beyond the borders of our campus and nation. USD is deeply engaged in public service, community engagement, social innovation with an anchor mission. This manifests in many ways since opportunities exist for USD to be more engaged locally in improving K-12 education, enhancing economic development, promoting health care, and serving as a catalyst for community development. Nationally USD has been invited to be one of 47 campuses part of the Anchor Learning Network recognized for sustained and enduring anchor institution practices focused on community reinvestment with the following mission:

“Higher education institutions are critical local economic engines and mission-driven organizations inextricably linked to the long-term well-being of those we serve—because of this, we as higher education leaders, are uniquely positioned and incentivized to play a more active role in supporting our local economies.”

USD has been part of the HEAMI initiative since 2017 and is also now part of the Anchor Learning Network. USD has a leadership role in this and USD team members are considered subject matter experts including a senior cabinet role with an Associate Vice President of Anchor Initiatives.
