A brief description of the institution's green laboratory program:
- The USD Shiley Science and Technology Building has an HVAC/Fume Hood efficiency
system in place that was installed by Newmatic Engineering.
- There is no formalized water conservation program.
- Chemical use and disposal is regulated and coordinated with EH&S and the
Hazardous Waste Hauler recycles as much as possible from the laboratory waste
stream.
- The departments are also starting a program to send the lab plastics to a
waste-to-energy facility through our hazardous waste program to divert these
wastes from the landfill.
