Narrative outlining how building-level energy performance is assessed and how the results are used to improve performance:
We collect energy data from all of our buildings. Local campus buildings have realtime electricity, hot water, steam and chilled water meters. Off-campus buildings use monthly data from the utility meters. The energy data is used for multiple purposes.
1. The building occupants are billed for the energy that they use based on the energy data collected. The building occupants review the energy use each month.
2. The area managers review the energy use for the buildings they manage and have the oportunity to look into high energy use to find issues and problems consuming excess energy.
3. The buildings are ranked by energy use index. Buildings with a high energy use Index are targeted for energy improvements.
4. All on-campus buildings (which is the majority of buildings) have thier energy use data shown on public dashboards, for anyone to see, including the occupants, managers, students and others.
