Every construction project has a stormwater management plan and devices that manage stormwater's impacts on the project and its surrounding area. At the Medical Center, there is a stormwater detention system that funnels water into tanks and slows their rate of release. At the newest building, At the Clinical and Translational Science Research Building, there is permeable pavement and a raingarden, one of three on campus. On River Campus, we have rain gardens that help to control runoff at O’Brien Hall, Genesee Hall, the Edmund Hajim Science and Engineering Quad (serving primarily Goergen Hall), and along Dewey Drive (between Wallis and Hutchison Halls). In developing plans for additional new buildings on campus, we may include another rain garden as part of construction of a new building to the south of Hutchison Hall.

The vast majority of surface and roof runoff is captured in private (University) and County managed storm sewer systems. Also, much of the water that infiltrates the synthetic athletic fields is captured in subsurface structures and flows into the sewer systems. Lawn spaces rely on natural percolation but there are area drains is some locations where flow is heavy or concentrated.
