A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :

To cover all courses offered in one year, all courses offered in Fall 2017, Spring 2018, and Summer 2018 were included in this inventory.

Courses were identified in two ways:
1. All standard course descriptions were reviewed for connections to sustainability
2. Faculty were asked to share if they included any sustainability content in their courses. As part of this process, the faculty were provided with the STARS definitions around sustainability in the curriculum.

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Other (please describe below)

A brief description of how courses with multiple offerings or sections were counted (if different from the options outlined above):

Courses with identical sections were counted as one course.
Courses with unique sections and that had section titles and descriptions were counted as separate courses. As an example, the FYS courses are all "FYS 100" but there are over a dozen unique sections taught by different faculty/staff and as such they were counted as separate courses.
Courses that offer unique sections at multiple times are only counted as the number of unique titles and descriptions, not for every time offered. As an example, BIOL 120 offers several sections, each of which has a different title and topic and which is offered multiple times. Each unique section is counted as one course - it is not counted as multiple courses by including each time it is offered.
