A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate:
The University recycles mixed paper, cardboard, metal, glass, and plastic #1 and #2 containers through programs around campus. Additionally, scrap metal, wood pallets, other wood materials, yard waste, tires, bulbs, batteries, carpet, food service grease, and electronic waste are all diverted from the landfill through assorted recycling and reuse programs. At the end of spring semester, the University hosts a giant yard sale to divert move-out waste from the landfill. The yard sale is open to the community at large and provides and opportunity for reuse, unsold items are donated.
