Organic food waste composting has been introduced at Physiol refectory at St Lucia campus. Consumers have a selection of bins to sort and divert waste to composting. Compostable food packaging is also encouraged.

Reusable service ware crockery is offered at dine in locations across campus, including at Darwin's, Genies, Wordsmiths, Pizza Caffe, the Red Room, Saint Lucy's and Lakeside Cafe.

Compostable containers are offered on campus. This is promoted under the UQ Unwrapped program which recognises and promotes vendors that are using compostable packaging for 'to-go' meals.

Reusable cups are encouraged across campus. This was initially introduced as a discount for BYO cup, however most vendors have now moved to BYO cup being the expectation and a surcharge is added for a takeaway cup.
