Does the institution offer at least one sustainability-focused major, degree, or certificate program for undergraduate students?:
Yes

Name of the sustainability-focused undergraduate degree program:
Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours)

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:

The Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours) is a four-year program that teaches how to describe, monitor and predict environmental processes and the effects of human activity on physical and biological environments.

The program combines scientific skills with knowledge of the legal, political and social aspects of environmental management, and includes extensive practical, field and research experiences to become a skilled environmental scientist.

A year-long independent honours research project in completed in the fourth year similar to an internship for a scientist and includes an environmental impact assessment or an environmental audit.

Majors include four options: Earth Resources, Ecology and Conservation, Environmental Toxicology, or Natural Resource Science.

Bachelor of Science (Marine Science major)

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (3rd program):

Marine science is the scientific study of our oceans and coastal habitats, and includes a wide range of disciplines in the biological, chemical, physical and Earth sciences. Students can pursue a general study plan or a more specialised plan in an area such as marine biology or marine geology. With an increasing focus on the role of our oceans to provide food and resources for our growing populations, the next generation of UQ marine scientists will play a major role in ensuring that we protect and profit from our oceans.

The Bachelor of Science with a major in Marine Science, is a versatile degree that provides students with the optimal balance between a defined sequence of study and flexible course options. This innovative program has been redesigned to develop graduates with the key practical skills and interdisciplinary knowledge required to address today's global challenges.

Does the institution offer one or more sustainability-focused minors or concentrations for undergraduate students?:
Yes

Name of the sustainability-focused undergraduate minor or concentration:
Earth Resources

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration:

Earth Resources
The Earth Resources major examines the physical environment. As a student in this major, you'll develop important knowledge and skills that will allow you to minimise the effects of extracting minerals, fossil fuels, water and other resources, and understand geological phenomena such as earthquakes, floods and erosion.

Name of the sustainability-focused undergraduate minor or concentration (2nd program):
Ecology and Conservation

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration (2nd program):

Ecology and Conservation
The Ecology and Conservation major focuses on the relationships between plant and animal species in their natural environments. It considers how environmental change and human activities affect their populations, and which conservation practices best protect biodiversity.

Name of the sustainability-focused undergraduate minor or concentration (3rd program):
Environmental Toxicology

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration (3rd program):

Environmental Toxicology
Graduates in environmental toxicology quantify and monitor toxic substances in the environment and evaluate their effects on biota and humans. At the interface of environmental sciences, biology, chemistry and toxicology, this major addresses the need of societies to identify the problems associated with environmental toxins, to facilitate assessment of risks and to implement regulation.

Natural Resource Science
The Natural Resource Science major focuses on the physical elements of landscapes (soils, water and vegetation) and the effect of human use on them. As a student in this major, you'll study environmental processes, and how they can be described, monitored and predicted, and devise solutions for a sustainable future.
