Department heads serve as sustainability liaisons or designate that role to another department member. Some non-department heads perform this role most effectively because of existing sustainability engagement and/or their position responsibilities within departments.

A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive (1st program):
Liaisons participate in an orientation program conducted by the Sustainability Coordinator and Sustainability Advisory Committee leaders. This includes a PowerPoint presentation about:
• Overall university sustainability objectives and initiatives
• Sustainability liaison resource information to support their role
• The importance of sustainability education and sustainable behavior by all faculty and staff
Liaisons receive and distribute sustainability information to her/his department during the academic year; e.g. Puget Sound sustainability achievement reports, best practices, initiatives, and sustainability event information. Liaisons share information in ways that are most effective for her/his department; e.g. electronically, in meetings, and/or postings.

Financial support for program materials is provided through the sustainability budget. Staff support is provided by Sustainability Outreach Subcommittee members, the university Sustainability Coordinator, and the Student Sustainability Coordinator.
