Does the institution make cultural competence trainings and activities available to all employees?:
Yes
None
A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
We have many campus events targeted at the whole campus community. Some examples are the Race and Pedagogy national conference, Diversity Theme Year programs and events, as well as many other speakers, concerts, art exhibits, and theatre productions occurring throughout the year which faculty and staff routinely attend. Some annual events are the Diversity Theme Year program and Martin Luther King Day celebration. Participation levels for those events are not numerically tracked.
The mandatory new staff orientation program contains a training unit on cultural competency lead by our Chief Diversity Officer. The Diversity Advisory Council surveys the entire campus (staff, faculty and students) to assess the campus climate and target cultural competency trainings/activities for areas where additional training would be valuable.
