A brief description of steps the institution has taken to ensure that the purchasing policy, directives, or guidelines are followed:

Puget Sound has addressed building environmental quality and sustainability while maintaining or reducing operating costs. We minimize the environmental health and safety impacts of buildings on building occupants and cleaning staff. We use environmentally preferred chemicals (Green Seal Certified products). We discontinued aerosol products. We are developing a green cleaning program/manual for custodial staff.

Carpet cleaning is challenging and some carpet cleaning products work better than others. We use the CRI Seal of Approval program that identifies effective carpet cleaning solutions and equipment to properly clean carpet and protect the university’s carpet investment.

We have been using a number of Green Seal Certified floor products for several years. All residential bedrooms have Green Seal Certified products in them. We are continuing expansion of green product use.
