A brief description of the vegan dining program:
The university was recognized in 2011 as among the top 10 Most Vegan Friendly Colleges in the US and Canada (small school category) by PETA. This was the fourth time in consecutive years Puget Sound has been named in the top 10 of this popular contest. In 2010 the award was formally converted from “vegetarian-friendly” to “vegan-friendly.”
The current focus at Puget Sound's Vegan Entrée station (lunch and dinner daily) is "Vegans Around the World". Beginning in 2011 the Vegan station operates seven days a week. Some terrific dishes served include:
• African Sweet Potato Stew (S. Africa)
• Enchiladas Derduras (Mexico)
• Sesame Noodles (China)
• Chili (USA)
• Minestrone (Italy – and many pastas)
• Curried Lentils with Carrots (India)
• Falafel (Egypt)
Our deli features vegan sandwiches (field roast, vegannaise etc.). A new wrap station was implemented in 2011 which offers a daily vegan selection. The PacRim station includes a daily tofu special. A salad bar revamp expanded our composed salads and vegan protein offerings. The Hot Cereal bar offers a variety of hot grains with assorted nuts, fruits, etc. as toppings.
