A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
The University of Pittsburgh is a state-related research university, founded as the Pittsburgh Academy in 1787. Pitt is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), which comprises 71 preeminent doctorate-granting research institutions in North America.

The institutional boundary is comprised of Pitt's main campus in Pittsburgh, which is 157 acres located in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. Other Pitt-owned buildings in Pittsburgh are also included in this report.

Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? Included?
Agricultural school No No
Medical school Yes Yes
Other professional school with labs or clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) Yes Yes
Museum Yes Yes
Satellite campus Yes No
Farm larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres No No
Agricultural experiment station larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres Yes No
Hospital Yes No

The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:
REGIONAL CAMPUSES: Four (4) University of Pittsburgh regional campuses are operated and maintained by their own Facilities Management departments -- and are otherwise managed as separated campuses independent of Oakland. Their Presidents report to Pitt's Provost, but no information specific to the regional campuses is included in this submission. https://www.pitt.edu/about/regional-campuses

UPMC HOSPITALS & CLINICS: Though closely related to Pitt's Schools of the Health Sciences, the hospital systems adjacent to Pitt's Pittsburgh campus are separately owned and operated by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), which is a separate nonprofit healthcare organization. A portion of the University's medically-related facilities are managed and operated by UPMC -- and therefore not included in this submittal.

PYMATUNING: Pitt's Pymatuning Laboratory of Ecology (PLE) is a 135 acre biological field station that is part of the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. However, PLE is not located on the Pittsburgh campus covered by this submission, so it isn't included. PLE is located in Northwestern Pennsylvania on the shores of Pymatuning Lake. PLE is dedicated to fostering the establishment of a sustainable culture through environmental education, field research in the natural and environmental sciences, and community involvement. https://www.biology.pitt.edu/facilities/pymatuning

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
MUSEUMS - Pitt has a number of locations and spaces on campus that could be considered museums, which are all included in this submission (e.g., Heinz Chapel).

OTHER PITT-OWNED LAND & FACILITIES outside of Pittsburgh are not included in this submission.

ACREAGE - The University of Pittsburgh's Pittsburgh campus owns properties inclusive of 201 acres, not all of which are in the primary Oakland neighborhood (and/or entirely maintained by the University). For that reason, acreage above is reported as 157 acres, which is the total Pitt property in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh (aka campus).
