A brief description of the institution’s program to support employee volunteering:
The University of Pittsburgh maintains event-based, reoccurring, and on-demand (initiated either by departments or community partners) opportunities for faculty and staff to volunteer. The Office of Engagement & Community Affairs (ECA) maintains a program for faculty and staff to mobilize and connect to the community through service and volunteerism. The university provides up to 7.5 paid hours per month in approved absence time for staff volunteerism efforts. Beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year, the Pandemic Service Initiative was created as a part of the larger cross-institutional efforts for the Pitt community to focus on basic needs, civic participation, digital access & equity, education, and health equity. The initiative includes expanding staff, faculty, and student service to the community; contributing to drives and collections; and forging innovative partnerships

Part 3 - The University provides up to 7.5 paid hours per month in approved absence time for staff volunteerism efforts. The institution tracks community service hours through the Volunteer Portal as a result of community partnerships and offerings by ECA, though there are also other institutional pathways for faculty & staff service maintained by Pitt Athletics, The Pitt United Way campaign, and departmental volunteer committees that may not be represented.
