Has the institution banned or eliminated the on-site sales and distribution of at least one type of single-use disposable plastic?:
Yes

A brief description of the single-use disposable plastics that have been banned or eliminated:

In August 2020, the University of Pittsburgh's Dining Services eliminated single-use plastic straws from campus. Additionally, Pitt's Dining Services is currently transitioning over from cold cups to sippy cup lids that are designed to eliminate the need for straws. Straws are available by request, but those straws are compostable PLA or paper, NOT plastic.

In 2018, the University of Pittsburgh Dining also participated in citywide plastic straw collection project to create public art for a cause. The "Straw Forward" public art project from Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurants was designed to shine a light on straws and other single-use disposables that are adding up to a big environmental problem.
