A brief description of the institution’s program to support employee volunteering:
The University of Pittsburgh maintains event-based, reoccurring, and on-demand (initiated either by departments or community partners) opportunities for faculty and staff to volunteer.
The Office of Community and Governmental Relations (CGR) maintains a program for faculty and staff to mobilize and connect to the community through service and volunteerism. Beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year, the Pandemic Service Initiative was created as a part of the larger cross-institutional efforts for the Pitt community to focus on basic needs, civic participation, digital access & equity, education, and health equity. The initiative includes expanding staff, faculty, and student service to the community; contributing to drives and collections; and forging innovative partnerships. The university provides up to 8 paid hours per week in approved absence time for staff volunteerism efforts for the duration of the covid-19 pandemic postures on campus.
