Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

While there has been a significant increase in campus-wide sustainability education since 2018 (including 21 tracked internal presentations to employee or mixed employee/student offices in calendar year 2020, reaching 1,240 attendees). Additionally, in one quarter of 2020 alone (October through December), the Pitt Sustainability team tracked 11 events reaching 542 attendees).

At this time, almost all education on-campus is done by employees and/or students paid to support campus-wide sustainability collaborations (which does not qualify as part of this credit.)

The University of Pittsburgh has an active Pitt Green Suite of engagement programs designed to include employees and students in campus-wide sustainability efforts, while raising awareness about ways for individuals, departments, events, and student organizations to become more sustainable. Current Pitt Green offerings are available for Pitt Green Events, residence hall Floors, Laboratories, Offices, and Residents, with a Pitt Green Student Organization designation in development. Additionally, due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, we launched a related Pitt Green Home Office Challenge in 2020.

While the University's Office of Sustainability aspires to develop a Pitt Green Ambassador program for both employees and students, the Covid-19 global pandemic slowed down general Pitt Green suite program engagement -- and thus delayed development of the Pitt Green Ambassador program.

The Pitt Green Ambassador program is envisioned to train both employees and students who successfully 1) Lead a Pitt Green Office or Laboratory team, 2) Complete Pitt professional development sustainability courses to become peer-to-peer educators, 3) Are Pitt EcoReps, 4) Lead development of Pitt Green Student Organizations; and/or 5) Other entry paths to be determined. Once designated, Pitt Green Ambassadors will go forth armed with knowledge, experience, access, and a direct line to the Office of Sustainability for updated information. They will educate their fellow employees and students and assist the campus-wide Pitt Sustainability staff in leading their colleagues and friends in supporting sustainability activities across Pitt's campus and engaging with the Pitt Green suite of programs.
