University of Thriftsburgh

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
The University of Thriftsburgh is a student created and managed campus thrifts store. It is the hub for creative reuse and re-purpose activities on campus. In the past three years of its existence the store has become self-sufficient, employing three student coordinators and has kept over 30,000lbs of clothing, textiles, furniture and e-waste our of the University waste stream. Thriftsburgh also partners with our on campus food pantry, the Pitt Pantry, to help provide for the basic needs of all members of the Pitt community. The mission of the store is to reduce textile waste, lower our carbon footprint, and to promotes a culture of re-use, sustainability, social justice, and vintage outfits for all.
