For Staff:

Penn offers our benefits-eligible faculty and staff, plus postdoctoral researchers and fellows eligible for
the Penn Postdoc Benefits Plan, broad-based wellness and work-life balance programs and resources.
Programs under the Penn Healthy You umbrella include Penn’s year-round Be in the Know wellness
campaign, which offers on-campus biometric screenings, a comprehensive online wellness platform, and
an array of health and well-being activities, plus the opportunity to earn $300 in rewards and special
recognition. The wellness platforms a variety of health promotion programs, tools, and resources,
including online health risk assessments; telephonic health coaching; a wide variety of wellness
programs and topics; emotional well-being video courses; nutrition and sleep guides; and opportunities
to build healthy habits and connect with colleagues. Additional resources within Penn Healthy You are
nutrition counseling sessions, fitness center discounts, financial wellness resources, and tobacco
cessation resources.

Penn’s Quality of Work-Life offerings provide a variety of well-being programs and resources for
parenting and caretaking, adoption, work-life balance, and mental health and emotional well-being
through MindWell at Penn and Penn Cobalt. Penn’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Health
Advocate provides eligible faculty, staff, and postdocs, as well as their families, access to free,
confidential, 24/7 counseling and referral services for personal and professional life issues from any
location. EAP services are available by phone, email, webchat, video, and in-person sessions. EAP
counselors will connect employees with the right experts at the right time: masters level clinicians,
work/life specialists, medical bill negotiators, and financial and legal professionals. In addition, Health
Advocate offers multi-language capabilities.

Through both the wellness and work-life offices, Penn also offers a wide variety of virtual and in-person
workshops by professionals on numerous physical, mental, and financial well-being topics, as well as
monthly wellness walks, group fitness classes, mindfulness and meditation classes, resilience series, and
much more.

To further promote wellness, Penn became a tobacco-free campus in 2017 and continues to offer access
to programs and resources for employees to reduce or eliminate use of tobacco products.

Wellness at Penn is dedicated to caring for students during their academic journey while creating a
campus-wide community of care. Our team is committed to offering a wide range of opportunities to
access support, clinical resources, education, and practical tools to meaningfully engage with one's
health and wellbeing. Our organization is built upon two pillars: Student Health and Counseling and
Public Health and Wellbeing. Both pillars operate collaboratively to create a campus community
centered on wellness.

Student Health and Counseling | Caring for Students During Their Academic Journey
Our team provides high-quality, compassionate care for undergraduate, graduate, and professional
students during their academic journey. Student Health and Counseling is committed to providing
safe, accessible, cost-effective, culturally sensitive, and student-focused care. Our team provides care
for acute and chronic health problems, preventative health services, mental health and counseling,
crisis management, and consultation

Public Health and Wellbeing | Creating a Community of Care
Our Public Health and Wellbeing division seeks to create a community of care through advocacy,
education, and action. Our dedicated staff focuses on a wide variety of healthy living topics, spanning
across the eight domains of wellness, as derived from the Department of Health and Human Services,
including sleep hygiene, stress reduction, nutrition, exercise, sexual health, and more. Our team
focuses on health education, disease surveillance, wellness requirements, peer wellness coaching,
substance use education and support, and managing our Penn Farm.

704.1 POLICY
The University of Pennsylvania is committed to maintaining a healthy and safe learning, working and
living environment for all members and guests of our community. It therefore is the policy of the
University of Pennsylvania that all smoking and tobacco use (including the use of smokeless tobacco) is
prohibited in all University buildings and facilities, including but not limited to any meeting rooms,
community areas, performance venues and private residential space within University of Pennsylvania
housing. Smoking and tobacco use is also prohibited in all University of Pennsylvania vehicles (owned or
leased), regardless of location. Finally, smoking and the use of tobacco products is prohibited on any
University of Pennsylvania property, including but not limited to outdoor spaces (such as College Green,
Shoemaker Green, Locust Walk, etc.), as well as parking lots, paths, fields, sports/recreational areas, and
stadiums. Where University of Pennsylvania buildings are adjacent to public sidewalks or streets,
smoking and the use of tobacco products is prohibited on those public sidewalks and streets within
twenty (20) feet of the entrance to the building.

The tobacco policy covers all smoking methods, including but not limited to the use of electronic
smoking devices (e-cigarettes, e-cigars, e-pipes) and hookah-smoked products.

704.2 ENFORCEMENT
Compliance with the applicable law and this policy is the responsibility of all members and guests of the
University of Pennsylvania community. Any person with concerns about the implementation of or
compliance with this policy should refer the matter to his or her immediate supervisor or manager for
resolution. If the matter cannot be resolved at this level, the concern should be referred to the Division
of Human Resources, Staff and Labor Relations or the appropriate Dean or Vice President.
